DG Copyright Management (“DG©M”) is an estate planning consultancy and intellectual property management organization.  We were created to oversee the stewardship of plays, songs, and musicals that are bequeathed to the Dramatists Guild or its related organizations (The Dramatists Guild Foundation, The Lilly Awards, Dramatists Legal Defense Fund).

DG©M places a greater value on artistic legacy than the typical heir, trustee, agent, or publisher that may put profits first or may not have the time, interest, or expertise to make the critical, creative decisions about your art.  We manage our catalog by working with the author’s established publishers and agents while allowing fellow writers on the Guild’s governing council to act as the author’s proxy whenever authorial approvals are required. In this way, dramatists make the artistic decisions about the author’s work forever after.

Revenues generated by the individual works help support the mission of the Dramatists Guild and the generations of playwrights, librettists, lyricists, and composers to come.

As a NY public benefit corporation (“PBC”), DG©M aims to have a positive impact we can have on our community and planet. These values guide our business practices and programs. In 2020, DG©M passed a rigorous third-party assessment to become the first PBC certified with Corporations for Good.

Core Values:

  1. Supporting the Dramatists Guild and its related non-profits. By enrolling your works with DG©M, you are giving the gift of copyright. You are saying thank you to those organizations that have been there for you throughout your lifetime while also directly supporting the next generation of dramatists.

  2. Safeguarding the author’s work and legacy. At DG©M we understand the value of the work you are leaving in our care. Accordingly, we place you, the author, at the heart of what we do. This means that your authorial intent will guide our decision making and we will enlist a committee of the DG Council to act as your proxy when needed. You can therefore be sure that your work is carefully managed with you in mind and by those you can trust. Of course, our primary aim is to always remember the author. As such, we are committed to investing in your legacy. Through our growing network of partner organizations and unique legacy programming we will aim to keep your memory alive and your work relevant over time.

  3. Be a resource for dramatists everywhere. As a public benefit corporation, we work to encourage all authors to consider their estate plans and the future life of their copyrights by offering free estate and legacy planning resources and tools.
